The pedestrian safety project, led by Professor Jiang and Professor Kinget, in collaboration with University of North Carolina and Barnard College, receives NSF CSR Medium Award (Grant No. 1704899, 1704469, and 1704914).
The research team is developing ultra-low-power wearable systems for detecting and localizing nearby vehicles and notifying the user of impending collisions.
“Often when pedestrians are hit by cars, they are looking in the wrong direction,” says Stephen Xia. “The goal of this research is to provide the user with a safety net for when a human’s sensors are insufficient.”
The NSF grant marks an important step for ICSL towards improving urban safety. We thank the NSF for their support.
